The Mathamatics of Poker :: Applying Pot Odds :: Importance of Position

The Mathamatics of Poker by JoblessJoe
Knowing the mathematics of poker is the single most important aspect of play at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced poker levels, at the professional level some people would argue that poker becomes an art form where mathematics takes second.
By mathematics I am refering to the ability to know the odds and probabilities of hitting a better hand or keeping the advantage in the hand. Knowing the "number of outs" and contrasting them with size of the pot. This concept is what seperates the profitable player and the inevitable loser. Applying Pot Odds by JoblessJoe
"Pot Odds" is an important concept to understand when making the transition from non-profitable to profitable.
In a nutshell pot odds refers the descion of whether or not to draw to improve your hand using the number of "outs" or cards left in the deck that you think well improve your hand enough to win the pot, versus the amount of money you need to pay to stay in the hand, contrasted by the amount of money that is already in the pot. Importance of Position by JoblessJoe
Position is argueably one of the most important concepts of poker, and becomes more apparant with higher limit play.
A good player alters the hands he/she plays and how he/she plays them based on their position of play. The positions in sequence are as follows with late position being the most desireable.
1) Small Blind
2) Big Blind
3,4&5) Early Position
6,7,&8) Middle Position
9&10) Late Position
